The Pilgrim Benefice Heritage Project
The Parish Churches of Aslacton, Bunwell, Carleton Rode, Great Moulton and Tibenham, South
Norfolk.
Corpus Christi Festivities & Heritage Crafts Week
June 2007
Introduction
Following on from the WPI student project ' The Pilgrim Benefice Heritage Project: A Historical, Political
and Social Understanding', which was commissioned to understand the local views on restoration and craft skills, we intend to hold a week of demonstrations and lectures in the Benefice showing the various skills needed in heritage restoration and maintenance work. This will be combined with what is required for local archive and historical research. The aim is to use as much local expertise as possible. We wish to demonstrate to people:
a) the need for heritage craft skills and the role they play in the maintenance and restoration of churches
and other historic buildings
b) their potential as viable careers or rewarding leisure pursuits.
In addition to this, the Tas Valley, which has the five parishes within its boundaries, will be show-cased
during the week, focusing on aspects such as local food production, hospitality and walks and cycle routes.
Heritage CraftDemonstrations
The demonstrations will take place at Great Moulton Church field the week- ends of June 9th/10th and

Children
The children at Carleton Rode Primary School are being involved in the 700th Anniversary
preparations. The children at Aslacton and Bunwell Primary Schools are taking part in other activities connected with the Festival. These are still to be defined.
A logo is being designed for the Festival and will be carved out of wood by a local carver &
sculptor.
Minibuses will be available to take people round the churches and other venues on both
weekends from designated car parks.
An A5 festival guide will be produced containing full details of all activities, venues, B&B's,
and local food producers.
Outcomes:
1. An encouragement for all, children and young people in particular, to
take an active part in their local built heritage.
2. A clearer idea than we have at present as to the number of people
locally, who have relevant skills, and who would be prepared to help on maintenance or restoration projects.
3. An encouragement to children, and young people to see that craft skills
are worth thinking about as viable career options. There are two young people who are craft apprentices whom we hope will provide role-models and share their experiences. |
